Nuclear Energy and America’s Global Dominance

Since the 1940 's, the landscape of the world has made a big change. As World War II begins, the tension among the most powerful countries in the world is rising. Russia, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States are striving for global governance. During the Second World War, the wise decision to invest in nuclear energy has made the United States a worldwide power. America used it as a threat to surrender the atomic bomb to the enemy. After Japan 's leadership on Pearl Harbor attack, the US military threatened to drop the atomic bomb in Hiroshima for retaliation and then carry out the same attack in Nagasaki.

From the birth of nuclear energy in the 1950s to the 1970s American companies dominated the world nuclear industry. Meanwhile, US companies funded nearly half of the world's nuclear power plants and established billions of dollars in the domestic industry. However, the US began to lose market share in the 1980s and reached the lowest value of 4%. Currently planned and only 7% of the total nuclear power capacity under construction in the world is from US companies. Given the fact that the economic and geopolitical advantages are lost as the nuclear industry shrinks, there is a concern that the market share in the United States will decline.
