Another strange American food festival is BugFest in Raleigh, North Carolina. More than 3,500 visitors come to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences every year. A local chef prepares insect food at Pop Inupcta restaurant. Surprisingly, this festival is usually sold out. According to legend, Olney of England has held the annual pancake contest every year since 1445. The quirky festival involves local female residents completing 400 yards of sprints while carrying pancakes with a cast iron frying pan. Competition has evolved into international competition and events are held all over the world on the same day. Other activities include children's competitions and pancake lunches.

North Carolina University opened accommodation facilities for female graduate students in 1921, but they were not popular. In the student newspaper "Women are not here" entitled.
