Northern slavery has never approached the number in the south. In terms of number, this is a bucket with water compared to the south. By contrast, the South itself is a slavery reduction in the new world. Before the first arrival in Virginia, about 1 million slaves from Spain and Portuguese were brought to Africa from the Africa. In the history of slave trade, about 500,000 slaves were brought to the United States (or the colony they built).

Compare the scope and nature of slavery in northern colonies with the slavery in the southern colonies.
