The 19th century short story and the short story of Gothic style I chose to compare are the ghosts of Charles Dickens' signal, arrest of Ambrose Bercy and Napoleon, and Charlotte Bronte. All these stories were completed from the middle of the 18th century to the latter half. Signal was founded by a British railway along a steep rail line along a steep section. Arrests took place in the United States, mostly in the forest. Napoleon and ghosts settled in Paris.

Beginning in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, a genre of new literature appeared as a gothic story like a mushroom. In the US, the representative of the most famous Gothic novel is Edgar Allen Poe, whose "terror" story is reminiscent of the dark side. Lord Alfred Lynn Tonyyson's poems like "King's pastoral" reproduce contemporary themes in the romantic medieval environment of Alexandria. In Germany, the revival of the Gothic style is also the foundation of literary fashion.

These features include: - using supernatural (such as ghost / soul), using a dark and huge image, the theme (especially revenge for death seeking revenge) and (indicating future what will happen )sharp. Edgar Allen Poe's "Collapse of Usher's House" shows many Gothic style features, especially with respect to settings and characters, so it can be described as a Gothic novel.
