The active participation of NGOs is an important element in the activities of the Committee on the Status of Women (CSW). Non-governmental organizations have an influence on the current global policy framework to promote women's and gender equality, the development of the Beijing Declaration and Action Platform. They continue to play an important role in bringing accountability to international and national leaders on their commitment in the platform for action.
The UN Women's Bureau is promoting the participation of non-governmental organizations in the committee's conference on the status of women. Certified by the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), an outstanding non-governmental organization can nominate representatives to attend CSW's annual meeting. The number of representatives who can participate in the public official meeting varies according to the vacant space.
A number of NGO participants who gave important information and substantive opinions to their deliberations to the annual meeting of the Geneva Human Rights Committee gathered. The committee broadly adopted non-governmental organization participation and gave NGO representatives the right to distribute the opportunities and documents at the plenary session widely. Public support from the global human rights movement made it possible to strengthen and advance this process. The delegation and the secretariat have recently experimented with the new conference arrangements at other forums to provide a further way for NGO participation. Consultation with the working group group on funds for the development of the General Assembly organized in 1999 provided a present and important case.
A group of non-governmental organizations, including the Global Policy Forum, sent letters to the General Assembly Chair asking for improved access and participation of non-governmental organizations. The list of ten recommendations includes access to the new Human Rights Council, Peacebuilding Committee, General Assembly, and better support for NGLS and appointment of senior NGOs in the Secretary-General's Office. "The United Nations must strengthen and strengthen its relationships with non-governmental organizations to build stronger, more effective, more legitimate organizations."
