New Legislation Regarding Drunk Driving

New laws on drunk driving are developed, discussed and adopted in the United States. In many states, especially for repetitive criminals, I am striving hard to make penalties for drunk driving more severe (Xavier). Currently, in each state, the lowest penalty for convicted drunk drivers involves automatic loss of license during the period determined by the state (Xavier). After conviction of drunk driving, the offender's driver's license should be automatically suspended or canceled, then the possibility of an implicit consent hearing will be revoked.

Policy makers responded to this demand by punishing these "criminal" drunk drivers, taking more rigid deterrent measures to stop drunk driving and save lives (Rose). Therefore, it is important to consider how drunk driving will be a policy issue and how to introduce and accept laws based on deterrence as a solution to that. We are also considering the impact of MADD on drunk driving law and the influence of these laws on alcohol related deaths. Background As a matter of traffic safety, struggle for drunk driving began in the late 1960s. Prior to the 1960's, the federal government had little impact on state drunk driving policy. The nationality and seriousness of traffic safety issues urged Congress to establish the Traffic Safety Act, the Automobile and the Road Safety Act in 1966.

Drunk driving was at the forefront of discussion for decades. More strict law passed nationwide, accident of drunk driving decreased. However, the threat of new driving is rapidly being replaced. This threat sends a text message during driving. Many people actually say it is more dangerous than drunk driving. According to the National Highway and Transportation Administration (NHTSA) website distraction.org, barriers related to drunk driving and text messaging are similar during driving. Both of them lead to distracting and driving down, becoming too close to approach, and it will not be possible to brake on approaching traffic on time.
