Nettie Stevens

Nettie Stevens Nettie Maria Stevens was born in 1861 in Cavendish, Vermont. She is an American biologist and geneticist, and his work prove that the chromosome determines the sex of the creature. She completed a 4-year course for 4 years at Westfield Teachers College in Massachusetts. Nettti graduated from the top class. She was awarded a bachelor 's degree in Stanford University in 1899 and 1900, Nettie studied Tenebrio molitor beetle and discovered that unfertilized eggs of female beetle always contain X chromosome.

Nettie Stevens is one of the first female scientists named for bioscience. She was born in Cavendish, Vermont. Her family settled in Westford, Massachusetts. Nettie Maria Stevens was born on 7th July 1861 in Cavendish, Vermont, Nettie and her sister Emma Julia (born January 14, 1863) are descendants of Ephraim Stevens and Julia Adams. In 1863, Stevens' mother died. Two years later, her father married Ellen C. Thompson from West Haven, Vermont, and moved to the Forge Village district of Westford, Massachusetts. Ephraim Stevens was a carpenter. He is believed to be successful enough to provide his daughter the best education. Stevens' early education took place at Westford Public School where her students recorded abilities and perfect attendance records. After graduating from public school, Stephens attended Westford University and graduated in 1880. According to the school records of Westford University, there were 11 students who graduated between 1872 and 1883, three of whom are Stevens, Elma's sister, and another woman.
