What is intercultural negotiation? The essence of negotiations is to negotiate under different cultures. In terms of negotiations, that means always involving multilateral negotiations. The complexity of negotiation is clear and widely accepted. In the words of Holsti (1982.p. 160), "This diplomatic problem is that it is often very confusing, almost ignoring generalization." Why is multilateral negotiations complicated? What? Culture is probably one of the most important reasons. Cross-cultural negotiations are very complicated, as cultural backgrounds differ depending on cultural practices, thought patterns, emotional patterns and behaviors. Cross-cultural negotiations include different cultural backgrounds and unknown factors (different behavior patterns, religious beliefs, traditions, etc.) that can cause effective communication failure.
Depending on various environments and backgrounds, we had several negotiations between courses. Dozens of studies are exploring the meaning and practice of intercultural negotiations (Gelfand and Dyer, 2000). Due to the large cultural differences, intercultural negotiations are very different from negotiations within the same culture. The key to all our negotiations is to adopt the best strategy, treat all negotiations openly, and observe the reactions of various cultures in different scenarios. Fortunately, as there are many foreign students in our class, we have the opportunity to learn various cultures and research.
