"Dutch" is a lowland / hyponym of Dutch and "land" refers to Dutch land, so the term "Netherlands" is used to describe the geography of the land. Because the country is very flat and undulating, this name is very suitable for explaining the area. In the 15th century, the Netherlands consisted of upper and lower lands.
