Natural Law, Rationality and the Social Contract

Every day, billions of people around the world are confirmed their commitment to specific ideas and become part of society. This social contract tends to be overlooked by most citizens, but their consent had a big influence. As a member of society, it is necessary to give autonomy right to higher authority, its aim should be to promote people's overall interests. To make this decision to be part of the Commonwealth is usually done without careful consideration, but philosophers generally believe that the uniqueness of human experience is the driving force for this decision.

Hobbes' social contract theory is a secularization of natural legal theory more than that provided by Grotius. For Grotius, the laws of nature are rational principles like mathematics and, therefore, independent of God. But for Hobbes, the laws of nature are reasonable from a practical point of view. That is the law to adopt to prevent rational people from hiding. In the Renaissance philosophy began to become more modern. It is easy for us to feel like today's ancient Greece and medieval times, and easy to identify. Philosophers of those days realized that they were walking a new path away from medieval academic philosophy and they soon began to call their philosophical style "modern". Their first effort was to breathe life into the old Greek philosophy school that they believed contained vitality that was lost in the Middle Ages.
