Every so-called "native American" in the country was an immigrant. From the early nineteenth century to the early 1900s there were two immigration waves. The first wave of immigrants known as "old immigrants" came to the United States between 1890 and 1897. They are mainly from northern Europe, the UK, Germany and Scandinavia. The second wave of immigrants known as "new immigrants" came to America from 1897 to 1924. "New immigrants" come mainly from Southern Europe and Eastern European countries such as Poland, Russia, Italy.
