Native American Symbols and Mascots in Sports

Our mission is to introduce Native American sports symbols and mascots. We organized our announcement by presenting examples from the four major sports teams of Chicago Blackhawks, Seminole, Florida, Cleveland Indian, Washington Red Skin. The founder of Chicago Blackhawks named his team "Chicago Black Hawks" and celebrated the head of the Soku Indian who fought against England in the war of 1812. But this team is easy. Their main complaint is only the logo, the name of peace, and mascot.

There was controversy based on possible negative consequences of using the Native American mascot as a symbol of the sports team. In this study, we are investigating the influence of Native American sports mascot on people's stereotypes and attitudes towards NA. In Study 1, people with right-wing authoritarianism (RWA) with NA mascot are more likely to support NA's negative stereotypes than people under controlled circumstances. Other analyzes showed that the recognition of negative stereotypes partially determines the relationship between new attitudes to behavior and approval of NA mascot under startup conditions. This relationship disappeared when individuals with high RWA saw pictures of people of modern NA (Study 2). In addition, the relevant data shows that those who support NA mascots truly believe that they represent good traits of NA people (Study 3).

Not my mascot: activation of stereotypes and prejudice against attitudes toward indigenous people and the impact of indigenous mascot

For many years many people have told that sports teams such as Native American Mascot, Cleveland Indian, Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Seminole and others continue to have stereotypes for indigenous peoples. Others think these mascots are harmless; if so, they respect and respect the history of Native Americans and symbolize respect and respect. Probably because of a survey conducted last year by the Washington Post, 90% of the American Indians studied did not feel offended by the name of Red Skin. Ever since then, defenders of this name, including team owner Daniel Snyder, reviewed the controversy and completed it. Discussion of "stick and stone" submitted by opinion poll is completely reasonable from the viewpoint of self defense. After all, Native American must withstand even worse crime than mascot.
