There was never a universal American indigenous religious or spiritual system. Native American spirituality includes many stories and legends, including mythical creation myths. Many American indigenous cultures have wizards that are traditional therapists, rituals, singers, mystics, legendary "medical men", and "medical women". It is a religious leader. Instead, their spiritual workers explain it in words in their own language, and in many cases will not tell outsiders.
The spirituality of American Indians includes many god stories and legends. In fact these terms are sometimes used interchangeably, but many Native Americans explain their religious practices as spiritual rather than religious. Many tribes practice shamanism. The common spirit is focused on maintaining a harmonious relationship with the spirit world, usually including worshiping a few small souls and great creators. This is usually done through ritual actions, usually including sand paintings. The color is made from specific spirits featuring sand, charcoal, cornmeal, pollen. These vivid and complex colorful sands were erased at the end of the ceremony.
