There is no sign language record or age, but American Indians have been communicating with Indian sign language for thousands of years.

An iconic trade brand known as Plain Indian Sign Language, Plain Standard, or Plain Sign Talk was born in the Native American plain. Each signatory country has a separate language signature version that is used in the hearing and can not be understood mutually. Plains Standard is used for communication between these countries. It started in Texas, then seems to spread north through British Columbia through the Great Plains. There are still some users today, especially Crow, Cheyenne, Arapaho. Unlike other sign language developed by audiences, we share sign language and spatial grammar of the hearing impaired. Through intergenerational communication, Plains Sign Talk is the working language currently used by some of the Deaf people of the Deaf and some of the Native American communities.
