The word Cherokee comes from the Creek word "Cherokee". In other words, it means "people in different languages". In their own language, Cherokee called himself Aniyunwiya or "principal" or Keetoowah, "Kituhwa man". Cherokee is probably one of the most interesting Native American groups. Their lives and culture are closely related to the early American settlers and the history of our country's free struggle. Their story is a painful, patient, and unforgettable story to promote tolerance and peace, and coping with the American government's indigenous people's problems.
Before the United States, some Native American lived in this land. In the southeast part of the country, the largest Native American group is Cherokee (Boulware, 2009). The Cherokee separated them from other tribes of the region through a network of extensive kinship relations (Boulware, 2009). They once occupied the territory of the entire Appalachian Mountains (Boulware, 2009). - President Andrew Jackson hopes that southern white settlers will expand the land owned by the five Indian tribes known as Indian evacuation policies (McNamara). The five Indian tribes affected were Choctaw, Muskogee, Chickasaw, Cherokee, Seminole. In 1830, the "Exclusion Law" was enforced. The expulsion law gives President Andrew Jackson the right to remove the Indian tribe living in the east of the Mississippi River by negotiating a treaty.
Tears filled the name of Cherokee, Americans called it Indian migration. In the 1800s, the US government created "Indian territory" in Oklahoma and sent all East Indigenous tribes to live there. Some tribes willingly agree with this plan. Other tribes do not want to go, the US military forced them. The Cherokee is one of the biggest tribes in the East and they do not want to leave home. Cherokee is an American peace alliance, so I ask the Supreme Court for help. The judges decided that the Cherokee Indians could stay home. However, President Andrew Jackson sent an army to march Cherokee to Oklahoma. They are not preparing for the journey, and it is winter. Thousands of Cherokee Indians died on the way of tears. Many Native American who came from other tribes also died. This is a terrible time in history.
