Benner is responsible for promoting the National Education Research Program of the Carnegie Foundation. This 3 year research project is part of a larger project to prepare for professional preparation for training. This is the first nationwide nursing education research in the past 30 years. She is also a joint director of the project entitled "Nurse's Clinical Knowledge Development in Surgical Environments".
