Myanmar Political Crisis: Towards a Democratic Nation

The purpose of this memo is to discuss the crisis of Myanmar as one of ASEAN member countries. After the general election on 7th November 2010, the situation in Myanmar worsened. It took the lives of many people and brought harm to many people in Myanmar. This also led to destabilization of the political situation in Myanmar. International media insisted that this is happening, the lack of coordination of the United Nations. At the moment, ASEAN is regarded as the best intermediary to find a solution to the problem as a regional organization including Myanmar.

The recent political history of Myanmar has been emphasized by the struggle to build a democratic structure among conflict parties. It is widely believed that this political transition from strict military rule to liberal democracy determines the future of Myanmar. The great victory of the Aung San Suu Kyi National Democratic Federation in the general election in 2015 brought hope to the success of this change. The foreign relations of the country, especially the diplomatic relations of the Western countries, were historically tense, but the situation improved markedly since the 2010 post-election reform.

Mr. Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar was arrested and the National Federation was suppressed in Myanmar's non-violent search for democracy and freedom. When the military refused the outcome of the democratic election in 1991 and imposed military rule, the struggle began. She will be released in November 2010 and will do free election.
