Thomas Milton Benson (July 12, 1927 - March 15, 2018) is an owner of American merchants, philanthropists, sports franchises. He was the owner of the New Orleans Saint of the National Football League (NFL) from 1985 to 2018 and the New Orleans Pelican of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 2012 to 2018. In 1956, he moved to San Antonio to rejuvenate. He was a poorly performing dealer and for his efforts, he gained 25% interest on the dealer. In 1962 he became full time Tom Benson Chevrolet. Greater New Orleans and owners of several car dealers around San Antonio. Benson became wealthy by profiting from a local dealer of a local bank. He finally purchased several small Southern banks and formed Benson Financial sold to Norwest Corporation in 1996.
