Suffering is deeply rooted in our daily lives. Disruptive things are happening in our daily environment, but people are hardly conscious of this because they occupy their own places in other tasks. W. H. Auden's Musées Beaux Arts is a statement about how to use them to observe or deter human perception, and human suffering. We are doing normal things like eating and opening windows, but others may be doing bad things so that you can easily see what actually happened. Through his poem, Oden explains that society is indifferent to human suffering by proposing artworks comparing ordinary images lined with human perception with painful images.
December 1938, WH. Auden lived in Brussels with his friend Christopher Isherwood and wrote "Muséedes Beaux Arts." The museums and museums listed in "Muséedes Beaux Arts" are Musées Royauxdes Beaux-Arts de Belgique museums visited by the Brussels Art Museum and Auden. 'MuséedesBeauxArts' has painted by an old Dutch painter - "Old Masters" - in the gallery in Belgium. Before doing the analysis below, you can read "Muséedes Beaux Arts" here.
"Muséedes Beaux Arts" (French is an "art museum") is a poem that W. H. Auden collaborated with Christopher Isherwood in Brussels, Belgium in December 1938. It was first published in "Palace des Beaux Arts" as "New Writing" (Modernist Magazine Edited by John Lemann) in the Spring of 1939. It then appeared in another time collection (New York: Random House, 1940), in English four months later (London: Faber and Furber, 1940). The title of the poem comes from Belgium of the Islamic Art Museum in Brussels and is known for its early Dutch painting collection. Oden visited the museum and saw some of his second lines of "Old Masters" including the old man Peter Bruegel.
"Muséedes Beaux Arts" was created in 1938, was published in the newspaper in 1939 under the name "Palais des beaux arts", was published in another period in 1940. This book was written when Auen spent in Brussels in Belgium. The title was a museum visited by the poet, and the picture written in this poem was hung during his visit. It is often considered a transient poetry because it occupies a simpler and more space between poet's early esoteric complex poetry and conversation. Short poetry structure is relatively simple, it uses ekphrastic's explanation (verbal description of the picture)
