Choctaw is prosperous in fertile sand, red clay, undulating hills, and lush woods in central central Mississippi and the central mountains of the eastern part. The estimated population after the initial exposure in Europe was 15,000 to 20,000, the second largest Indian group in the southeast (Blitz 1988: 127). Choctaw in the southeast is a maternal society. Traditionally, women do work related to family life. These include making pottery and dishes, preparing food, planting and harvesting crops.

It is believed that Choctaw's people merged in the 17th century and may have come from people living in the culture of Alabama and Plachem. Their culture has been developing in the southeast. The Oklahoma Territory was organized from the west side of Indian territory in 1889, the Choctaw Government broke up in 1906 and made them Oklahoma citizens. Today Choctaw is two prosperous autonomous states in Mississippi and Oklahoma. They survived the influence of federal policy and maintained the perception of their language, customs and cultural community. As of 2001, Choctaw Nation based in Durant, Oklahoma, had a total population of 148,976 people. It has diverse economies, employing many tribal members in tribal management business. The most famous industries in Choctaw Nation are agriculture and livestock industry, forestry, gambling, construction, fishery, manufacturing and tourism. The tribal government was rebuilt in 1983 and is based on the form of a tribal committee consisting of a director and a representative of twelve people.
