Mormon History and Joseph Smith

In 1777, Thomas Jefferson drafted the statue of religious freedom, many of the largest religious groups in Virginia state opposed this statue, fearing that this statue would lead to the death of the church (Heneretta & Brody, 2010). However, with the help of James Madison, the statue of religious freedom was promulgated in 1786. This is one of the important documents directly related to religious rights in American history. This statue prohibits the US government from disturbing or supporting any religion.

According to the history of Mormonism, young Joseph Smith was confused about which church to join. In 1820, he prayed at the age of 14 and prayed to God for wisdom. Then my father and Jesus Christ came to Joseph. My father told Joseph to listen to his son. Jesus said to Joseph, all the existing churches are corrupt and their teachings are said to be wrong. On September 21, 1823, Joseph Smith had his second vision. There, Moroni appeared before him and told him to look for a gold plate. Four years later, Smith translated the improved Egyptian hieroglyphs into English.

Mormons believed that God reconstructed the early Christian church of the New Testament through Joseph Smith. In particular, Mormons believe that angels like Peter, James, John, and John the Baptist have appeared on Joseph Smith and others, and give them the authority of various priests. Therefore, Mormons believe that their church is 'the only church living in truth'. In addition, Mormons believe that Smith and his legacy successor are modern prophets who accept God's revelation to guide the Church. They believe that other religions have some truth and are guided by the light of Christ.

Joseph Smith founded the Mormon Church in 1830. Mormonism and fundamentalists believe that Smith is the most important prophet in history. Convicted impersonation replaced Smith with his people with the legend of an angel named Moroni. The so-called angel visits his bedside every year.
