Missing Women

At Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness, the explanation of female characters is inappropriate. This may be directly related to idealistic women's concepts in European society. The general view of women in the 19th century is that they are inferior. Men, usually Europeans, are considered as explorers and colonialists. On the other hand, a woman is a housewife and can not measure the status of men in society. In the novel, Joseph Conrad is depicting only three main women, Marlow's aunt, Kurtz mistress, Kurtz's fiancee.

In 1990, the Nobel laureate and economist, Amartya Sen, reminded the world of the phenomenon "woman's missing". He said more than 100 million women in the world are missing. It challenges the belief that women account for 50% of the world's population. This view shows that in Europe and North America women are relatively more than men. However, in most people in the world, especially in South Asia, sex ratio is more favorable for men than for women (Sen, 1990). Women living in these parts of the world are considered "missing" because they are not allowed to be born.

Many women are missing in Canada, and many of these women are indigenous women. Why are indigenous women more vulnerable? Most of the missing indigenous women live on the street, live in poverty, and do sex trading before disappearance. Why are all of these women in the same situation? I believe conflict theory explains the difficulties these women face before being subjected to abuse and discrimination. Causes and effects of women and marriages are confusing, complex, and sometimes impose them. On the other hand, they can make your whole day better, whether it is a smile, a hug, or just to give you extra life support. This raises the theme of marriage and the reason why women consider marriage. The term marriage may be misunderstood and it varies greatly depending on your culture. British Columbia missing female survey is an ongoing criminal investigation on the disappearance of at least 60 women in the eastern district of downtown Vancouver from the early 1980's to the year 2002.
