In my own words, the Management Information System (MIS) is defined as research on information systems and focuses on their use in business and management. MIS is a hierarchical subset of information systems. MIS uses information technology to pay more attention to the organization and improve business value. Computer science pays more attention to software and handles applications that may be used in MIS. Computer engineering is product oriented and deals primarily with the architecture behind computer systems. ERP software is a subset of MIS, IT management refers to IT management of IT departments that may include MIS.
