Cervantes has had a great success with an adventurous life, but he had economic hardship throughout his life. His father is a pharmacist and knows nothing about his childhood, except that he is a favorite student of Madrid's humanist, Juan Lopez.
In 1569, Cervantes lived in Rome and worked for the future Cardinal. Shortly thereafter, he joined the Spanish fleet to fight the Turks. In the battle of Lepanto in 1571, he took three bullets and gave permanent damage to his left hand. After that he stayed in Palermo and Naples. On his way back home in 1575, he and his brother Rodrigo was caught by Burberry pirates and detained by Algiers. After five years imprisonment, Cervantes was redeemed and returned to Madrid where he began writing. His record shows that he wrote 20 to 30 plays, but only two survived. In 1585 he announced the relationship. In the meantime, he married a woman 18 years younger than herself, and there was an illegal girl nurtured at home. He was an applicant for tax collectors and naval supplies, but was imprisoned for accounting irregularities. Some historians think he put the idea in prison for Don Quixote.
In 1604 he got permission to publish Don Quixote. This book was originally a satire against a chivalry epic, but it is much more complicated than simple irony. This book combines traditional genres and creates a pessimistic portrait depicting a helpless man striving to live by past ideals. This book was a huge success, bringing literary respect and status to Cervantes, but it did not produce so much money. He wrote TV series and short story until writing a fake sequel that another writer encouraged him to write Don Quijote in 1615, Part 2. He died the following year
