Metaphors: A Way to Think and Reason About Our Lives

According to Professor George Lakoff, metaphor is a way of thinking and reasoning about life. Because they reflect our thought process, they are not a unique way of speaking (1986). When I start looking for a commonly used metaphor, this is obvious to me. Because the thinking system is everywhere, it took a while to discover it. I also did not notice that many of the common phrases around me are metaphor. These phrases are not "poetic or rhetorical" way of speaking, it is a common way to express my thoughts and talk about my worldview.

A conceptual metaphor is seen in the language of our daily life. The conceptual metaphor not only shapes our communication but also forms our way of thinking and behavior.
