Metallica was a heavy metal music band founded in Los Angeles, California in 1981. James Hartfield responded to an advertisement reported by Lars Ulrich in Los Angeles' s "recycler" in June 1981. A drummer called Lars Ulrich advertised, "Drummer is looking for other metal musicians of Pan Tang's Tygers, Diamond Head, Iron Maiden." James Hetfield answered the advertisement. Before the band was established Ulrich asked if the founder of Metal Blade Records could record songs for the brand 's upcoming editing album Metal Massacre, and that request was accepted.
On April 4, 2009, Metallica entered the rock 'n' roll hall of fame. They are entitled to enter the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame and are recommended in the second year. Metallica selection holes include the current lineup, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, Lars Ulrich, and former members Jason Newtead and Cliff Burton. MTV named Metallica the third "heavy metal band" in history.
