Memories of My Indian Family

When the POP plane landed on a dimly lit track my ears adapted to pressure changes and memories of my family years ago passed through my heart. Aunt of the kitchen mixes the spices, the uncle has returned from work, a few hours to entertain my cousin, and the lively memories made by my family. I was satisfied when I came to pick up my family and gather around me when I left Indira Gandhi International Airport and entered the damp climate of India.

When I was in kindergarten, my earliest memories of family differences came. Friend's mother is doing a strange job - I only care about my own appearance. It does not matter whether my father is Indian or my brother is Indian. There are only people who think that I am not alone. There is no problem for other people to link themselves to Indian culture, but I do not want to be seen as an Indian culture. I want to be treated as a Caucasian. When I was 19 years old, I started looking for my birth family. After searching hard, I found a biological father. I remember talking to him on the phone and asking "What are we?" He told me that we were Guyana. During the past seven or eight generations, our family was in Guyana, but before I went to Guyana as a contract agent I came from India. I heard that my family lived in Guyana for a long time. It proved my separation from Indian culture. Even my newly born family has nothing to do with their Indian tradition.

In my family, our mothers are African Americans and Indians. To my knowledge, among my father's family, we are African American, Caucasian, Indian, Puerto Rican, German, Portuguese.
