Melatonin and pineal gland deep inside our brain are small glands called pineal glands. This small gland is the cause of the endocrine system, the glandular system controlling the majority of our body's function. The pineal gland moves our "body clock", which produces melatonin; this hormone is the greatest medical discovery since penicillin and may be the key to controlling the aging process. The pineal gland controls our sleep cycle and change in body temperature as we change the season.

In the hormonal activity following the 24-hour cycle, the pineal gland secretes melatonin, which induces sleep, changes mood and spiritual agility, and plays a role in reproductive system activity. Cortisol release from the adrenal cortex following secretion of melatonin (influences degradation of carbohydrates, proteins and fats; leukocyte development; nervous system activity; and regulation of blood pressure) (Bryan 1998)
