Media and Fear of Crime

Mass media is a tool for communicating information and entertainment. However, media practice and its impact on the public are more harmful than good. The two major categories of mass media are print media and electronic media. It is duplicated in some areas, but mainly based on the topics they cover and the way they are provided. Research has been conducted to measure the influence of each form on the public. Print media is often based more on facts and electronic media tend to focus more on visual aids to help convey information.

Will the exposure of media and certain news media influence the fear of crime? The problem was the study of data from three US universities and Canadian universities, the influence the media had on the fear of university students' crime: cross country comparison and results. It is thought that fear itself may weaken and possibly cause harmful social influences. Vincent Sacco thinks that there are three aspects to fear crime. It is recognition, emotion, and action. Cognition examines how people assess the likelihood of their victimization

People's understanding of crime and justice comes mainly from the media. In this article we will explore the impact of media consumption on fear crime, punishment attitude, and police effectiveness. This research contributes to the literature by expanding knowledge about the relationship between crime fear and media consumption. The research also helped to conduct limited research on the influence of the media on punitive attitudes, while providing a very needed analysis of the relationship between media consumption and police satisfaction. Using OLS regression, the results indicate that respondents who regularly watch the crime drama are more likely to be afraid of the crime. However, this relationship is weak. In addition, the results show that gender, education, income, age, problems of neighboring residents and the effectiveness of police are statistically related to fear of crime.
