Title: Measurement of vital capacity and total lung capacity Objective: To examine the effect of sex on human lung capacity and total lung capacity. For example, develop problem solving and experimental skills, process and present information accurately, properly plan, design and evaluate experimental procedures, produce effective results, document results, and valid conclusions . Develop technology using portable spirometer.
The size of human lungs is determined by genetic, sex and height. At maximum capacity, the average lung can hold nearly 6 liters of air, but the lungs usually can not operate with maximum capacity. Lung air volume was measured based on lung volume and lung volume (see Figure 1 and Table 1). Volume measures the amount of air that is functioning (eg inhalation or exhalation). Capacity is any two or more quantities (eg, how long you can inhale from the end of the maximum expiration date). Figure 1 shows human lung capacity and capacity. The total lung capacity of an adult male is 6 liters. Tidal volume is the amount of air that is inhaled during a normal breath. Inhalation capacity is the amount of air drawn in during a deep breath and the remaining volume is the amount of air remaining in the lung after a strong breath.
Capacity is a measure of two or more volumes. Lung capacity (VC) measures the maximum amount of air that can be inhaled or exhaled during the respiratory cycle. This is the sum of respiratory volume, tidal volume, and inspiratory volume. Inhalation ability (IC) is the amount of air that can be inhaled after the end of normal expiration. Therefore, it is the sum of tidal volume and inspiratory volume. Functional Residual Capacity (FRC) includes respiratory reserve capacity and remaining capacity. The FRC measures the amount of extra air that can be expelled after normal exhalation. Finally, total lung capacity (TLC) is a measure of the total volume of air that the lung can accommodate. It is the sum of the remaining amount, respiratory reserve, tidal volume and inspiratory reserve.
