Measurement Properties of the Communities That Care® Youth Survey Across Demographic Groups

Preventive science is generating information on risks and protection factors predicting adolescent drug use and related problem behaviors. This white paper examines the Community Care Youth Survey which measures multiple risks and protection factors. Samples of 172,628 students enrolled in the seven state surveys in 1998 were analyzed and the factor structure of these risk factors and protective factors was examined and the equivalence of the factor models in the five racial / ethnic groups I verified. Person, Asian or Pacific Islander-based, Caucasian, Hispanic and Native American, 4th grade (6, 8, 10 and 12) and two gender groups. This result confirms the structural validity of the risk of investigation and the scale of protection factor and shows that these scales are equally reliable for men and women and 5 racial / ethnic groups. In the "care for youth community care" survey, online surveys are conducted to assess various risks and protection factors for students to complete in about 40 minutes.
