Marion Barry

Marion Barry, a good mayor, but a bad man. Marion Barry is the former mayor of the capital of the United States. Mayor Marienberly participated in the civil rights movement as the first president of the Student Nonviolence Coordination Committee (SNCC) in the 1960 's. Marion Barry, born in Leflore County, Mississippi, is the third of the ten children. His father passed away at the age of four, and one year later her mother transferred her family to Memphis, Tennessee. He was elected the first chairman of the Student Nonviolence Coordination Committee (SNCC). He resigned from the program and turned to his new position on SNCC.

The first President of SNCC was Marion Barry, later became Mayor of Washington, DC. Barry served as president for one year. The second President was Charles F. McDew, Chairman from 1961 to 1963 and succeeded John Lewis. Stokely Carmichael and H. "Rap" Brown was the president of the late 1960s. The secretary general of the SNCC, James Foreman, played an important role in the management of the organization. Members of SNCC suffered even greater risk in 1961 after members of KKK and other Caucasians attacked a comprehensive bus that violates the local apartheid law.
