Margaret Laurence

Jean Margaret (Peggy) Wemyss was born on July 18, 1926 in Lawyer of Neepewa, Robert Harrison Wemyss in Manitoba, and Verna Jean of Nee Simpson. Margaret's mother died at the age of four, her father later married to her older sister Margaret Campbell Simpson, then became a librarian. She is one of Margaret's "greatest encourager" for many years. After her father died, when she was 9 years old and her brother was a child, family and grandfather Simpson lived in a big brick house at the first avenue.
