The structure of the whole day of Mother is suitable for talking about multiple love stories. Like Seinfeld's most heart-warming episode, Gloria Naylor does not tell the story of love, but it details the daily events of all the central figures. In that process, the character 's love story was instantly conveyed. The most obvious example is the relationship between George and Cocoa (it can be said that it is the main love story). Through this book, we see that they met, fell in love, and experiences excitement and suffering; all love is so.

George is very skeptical to believe in superstitions. He believes that you first need to understand your beliefs about the future so that you have the power to change it. When he finally went on an annual trip with Cocoa, you began to understand George's superstition view.

On Mother's Day, Voodism is a powerful force on a small island. People in the community are aware of the existence and practice of religion, many of which are afraid of being cursed. For readers and outsiders like George, it may be difficult to believe that things like herbs on a person's pouch or thongs in hair are harmful. However, readers can not doubt the power of religion, as female mothers that are highly trusted and respected in the novel believe in the power of Voodism. When Mother's Day knew that Ruth cheated here and almost killed, she never noticed a surprise (259-264). Instead, Mother 's Day trying to reverse it looking for sinister things. Mother's Day "... ... begin separating each braid" (264). In areas that do not practice toxicity or do not believe in toxicity, doctors are asked to treat patients. Instead, Mamaday looks for a voodoo curse as a source of cocoa rather than a medical diagnosis.
