The same diversity caused seemingly troubling social cohesion and the threat of racial violence brought considerable tension to Malaysian politics.

Since independence, various geographical, historical, social and political factors have contributed to the formation of foreign policy in Malaysia including the implementation of domestic international relations. Along with globalization and the development of communication and information technology (ICT), various decisive factors are becoming increasingly important. The nature of our foreign policy is changing, but the basic goals remain unchanged. It is to pursue national interest internationally and to ensure the continued prosperity and stability of our country.

The premise of the foreign policy of Malaysia is to establish a close and friendly relationship with the countries of the international community. Tun Razak launched a series of brilliant initiatives in foreign policy, mainly to build this position since independence, in order to make Malaysia escape from the anti-communism standpoint of the parent western Europe and the United States. This is accomplished by protecting the sovereignty of the state, promoting peace in the world, promoting friendly relations with foreign countries, and protecting the interests of Malaysia in regional and international fields. In other words, Malaysia will continue to integrate relations with other countries and international organizations at regional and international levels. Tunku razak feels this is necessary for the security needs of the state, it requires that Malaysia peacefully co-exist with all countries, communists or non communists .
