Six years later in 1963, the Malaysian peninsula joined Singapore, North Borneo and Sarawak, and they were collectively called "Malaysia". But two years later, Singapore became an independent country, so Malaysia we know today includes the Malay Peninsula, North Borneo and Sarawak.
