The number of students graduating from universities in Malaysia is gradually increasing every year. According to the Ministry of Higher Education (2011), there were 115,015 students and 66,767 students from public and private universities in 2010. However, the number of students who graduated in 2009 was only 113,618 students from public universities in Malaysia and 44,586 students from private universities. This shows that the number of graduates increased by 23,578 from 2009 to 2010.
Alumni are confronted with this specific problem as it is said that local graduates lack certain decisive factors that do not meet the requirements of the employer. Local graduates do not pay attention to the three important abilities of employment skills, self-image and grooming, effective communication skills and English proficiency. Student perceptions of the effectiveness of completing a school curriculum may be different from the current employment situation and is entirely dependent on the honesty of respondents and the understanding of the questionnaire.
