Making a Change: Education for African Americans

Malcolm X once said, "Without education, I will not go anywhere in the world" ("Malcolm X - Words of Wisdom"). What he means is that African Americans need to graduate from high school or university to succeed. When a student graduates from high school, they make a decision. The decision determines the rest of their life. They decide whether to go to college or not. Some people may say that this is not a big difference, but those with a degree can find a job more easily. African-Americans can benefit economically from college attendance.

African-American Education Since 1800, the education of African-American children in the late slavery period was as sporadic and unreliable as the other Southern provinces. There is little formal education for African Americans. Education often includes on-the-job training in various occupations. Prior to the civil war, most people believed that education of African-American leads to frustration and rebellion. The minority supports guidance and frequently voluntarily provides services. According to the 1850 census, 58,558 African Americans (27.5% of the population) live in Texas. There are less than 1% (397 people) free, of which 217 are culture, 20 are school, 58 are illiterate adults. 58,151 enslaved African Americans do not have actual statistics, but the available data suggests that some slave groups already accept the basics of reading and writing.

African Americans played an important role in the civil war. At the beginning of the war African Americans were not allowed to fight for the north. But this situation has changed, and 10% of the troops were African Americans by 1862. African Americans also worked in the navy. Their performance is slightly lower than the Navy's 20%. In addition, some uncontrollable slaves are helping the north through guides and spies. African Americans have played an important role in the north. Until the end of the war African American talent was allowed to fight for the south. Southern people are too afraid that slaves will use weapons to resist slave owners. During the Civil War, African Americans worked at plantations. For all African Americans working in the farm, this allows another white southeran to fight. African Americans served the Confederates by being chefs or nurses, but they were not allowed to fight until the end of the war.
