One of the themes of "Green Mile" is death. It allows the reader to think deeply about their fate and covers the entire novel. Given that the story takes place on the line of death, this is an obvious theme. However, further analysis shows deeper meaning than those who died in the electric chair due to their crime. "And we are thinking about all of us - we will walk on our own green miles - always in our own time" (Paul p. 434). Readers will find that Green Mile itself is a metaphor of death.
