Maharashtra Metro to start work on underground stretch by June

PUNE: Work in the subway Pune Metro district is scheduled to start in June. Mahar Metro will issue a bid within one week

Brijesh Dixit, CEO of MarihaMetro, says: "When a bidder is issued, the bidder will take about 45 days to participate, after which the bidding and publishing process of the work order will begin."

Dixit added that the bidding process will be open to Indian and foreign companies. "Since many companies have the necessary tunneling technology for subways underground, there will be a considerable amount of competition," he said.

Pimpri - Swargate The total length of the corridor is 16.5 km and the last 5 km is in the basement. In this section, 9 stations out of 15 stations go up and the rest stations are underground.

According to the plan of MahaMetro, the majority of the underground construction is either built or passed under the highway. Therefore, the vertical axis is inserted into Agricultural College and Swargate, the tunnel boring machine (TBM) descends through the shaft and mining the main part of the route.

The official said that the underground part of the route is a narrower part and is considering a method of "cutting and covering".

"First of all, the shaft will be studied," senior executive MahaMetro said. "These wells at Swargate and Agricultural College are used to lower the TBM, the tunnel boring machine will start operation within 5 to 6 months," the official added.

TBM will drill a tunnel at the private court, Pune Municipal Corporation, Budhwar Peth, Mandai subway stations, and Shivajinagar site and Swargate site will adopt cut and cover construction method.

"We are planning this work to significantly reduce the cost and inconvenience of the public during construction," another official said.

The structure of the underground work station is a concrete box with a width of 20 meters, a height of 14.6 meters, and a length of 225 meters. Both sides of the box are made of 2 m thick reinforced concrete

When asked about possible damage to utilities, the authorities said they would follow the detailed project report (DPR) guidelines. "To avoid damage during construction, all utilities within the excavation area need to move early, although cross-connect facilities need to be supported," DPR said.

Consultant's recommendation to the project stated that pressure water piping through the proposed cutting area should install valves on both sides of the cutting. This is used to isolate the overflow area from the cutting area when the pipe is damaged during work.
