She grew up in the Saddle Lake Reserve and was sent to the Blue Quills Control School in Sao Paulo, Alberta at the age of seven. . After graduating from school at the age of 16, she went to Sao Paulo high school. So she began to record her own life experience. (McNally Robinson) Halfe has a social work degree at the University of Regina and is trained in drugs and addiction counseling (Moses and Goldie 396).
