Beat's queen Louis Eldrich is the oldest of the seven children. Erdrich was born in Little Falls, Minnesota on June 7, 1954. The mother of French Ojibua and the daughter of German-American father Eldrich is a member of Chippewa's Turtle Mountain Band. Erdrich's family lived near and influenced her writing life from a young age.
