Young Goodman Brown lost faith in the Bible and God ordered Moses to go to Mount Sinai and to receive God's instructions. When he returned, his people, the Israelites, were already crazy. They forgot Moses and forgot their God. They made their own god, a golden calf, and built an altar. They even held a festival for the golden calf. "Then they sit down and eat and drink, sit down and soak in the carnival" (Exodus 32: 6). Then Moses fell down angrily and broke the tablet with 10. The Israelites lost their faith. Because they could not see the god they worshiped.

Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown" is a story of a man named Goodman Brown who has a strong Puritan faith. Goodman Brown brought his wife to the depths of the forest with faith in a dark night led by strangers. Goodman Brown held several secret gatherings in the forest and some of his villagers were there. At this point in the story, Goodman Brown discovered that he solved the hidden part of the villagers' life and was in the light. "Tonight you should inform you of their secret behaviors ..." (946)

Faith, and the struggle for maintaining it is the theme of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown". In this story, Hawthorne is the wife of Goodman Brown, because it has created a clear symbolism and irony, was called the believe. Through the story, Goodman Brown is constantly trying to keep his religious beliefs, and, when the faith of his wife succumb to evil, faith will be lost. The first symbol used in the story is the wife of Young Goodman Brown, three months of faith. Faith represents faith in the faith of man and religion. The journey that Brown experienced symbolizes the inner journey of the human heart. Walsh, the third iconic tool that is used in the story is a devil, it is said to represent the side of Brown's evil.
