In order to judge how sustainable the city of Los Angeles is, we selected the following Egan Wheel as the basis of the analysis. Sustainability is defined as "ability to meet current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs" (United Nations). Compared with environmental sustainability, I decided to focus on a more comprehensive sustainable development, including every aspect of society. In order to truly achieve sustainable development, the community needs to "effectively utilize natural resources, improve the environment, strengthen economic prosperity, and promote social cohesion" (UN ).
This brings us closer to the theme and family of this series: Los Angeles. Los Angeles has plans. On the contrary, Mayor Eric Garcetti has "pLAn" to make Los Angeles a sustainable city. The most sustainable part of Garcetti pLAn is the fact that you can recycle printed paper. For ambiguous removal of this failed vision and leadership, please refer to Dick Platkin's article by LA Progressive. Not only goodwill, development plan. For a more comprehensive overview, please read first.
There are 11 professional sports teams in Los Angeles City and its metropolitan area. Los Angeles needs to change the water infrastructure. As a positive move, Mayor Eric Garcetti and City of Los Angeles announced the Flexible Los Angeles program this month. This outlines 96 steps to strengthen the city. One of the most intelligent movements is to reduce the dependency on imported water from current 85% to less than 50% by 2035. Now, if the earthquake blocks the connection with the Los Angeles Aqueduct, the National Water Project or the Colorado River Suidobashi, we will be involved in trouble soon. Through a supply mix in a well-balanced area between recycled feedwater, captured rainwater and groundwater, cities will be able to withstand disasters. It is also environmentally beneficial to extract less water from remote areas. Water running through the state needs a lot of energy. By leaving much water in Delta, Owens Valley, the Colorado River basin, you can reduce the impact on ecosystems and carbon dioxide emissions of feedwater.
