There is a difference as to whether the actual identity method establishes a "national ID card" system. Although the new law prescribes only domestic standards, the Department of Homeland Security asserts that it is not a "national ID card" system, as card issuance and database management are entrusted to the state's hands I will. Web sites such as no2realid.org, unrealid.com, realnightmare.org etc. regard this as a self-evident difference. .REAL ID is not a set of national standards, it is not a national ID card. REAL ID does not create a federated database of driver's license information. Each jurisdiction keeps track of its own unique licenses, maintaining its own records, who can access those records, and under what circumstances. The purpose of the REAL ID is to make the ID document more consistent and secure. DHS has worked with the state for years to implement REAL IDs and has provided technical support, grants and other support for them. We also provide a pre-implementation notice of over 2 years on domestic air travel, so that all states have enough time to meet compliance. Alternatively, if the state of a potential air traveler does not meet the REAL ID, you can obtain other forms of ID.
