Library Research: An Introduction

Information can be obtained almost anywhere, including social media, blogs, personal experiences, books, magazines, journal articles, expert opinion, encyclopedia, web pages. The type of information you need depends on the question you are trying to answer. Different tasks require information from various sources, so you need to know where to find particular types of information.

Compared to other types of publications, articles tend to have narrower focus and more subject analysis.

Blessinger's article explains an overview of customers with problem libraries. It serves as a complete introduction to the topic but it provides a bit of content not available elsewhere. This article is divided into sections detailing the behavior of various types of problems that may occur in the library. These include angry customers, harassment of staff, crime, destruction of the property of the library, unattended children, homeless people, pornography at public computer terminals. The library crime in the literature on problematic customers is very common and this article provides examples of library actions to prevent future potential criminal acts. The first public library in Australia was the Melbourne Public Library (now the State Library of Victoria), opened in 1856 and opened in a few years after the introduction of the UK. But this is purely a reference library. In September 1869 the NSW Provincial Government opened the Sydney Free Public Library (now the State Library of New South Wales) by purchasing the bankrupt subscription library. In 1896 the Brisbane Public Library was founded. The library collection was purchased by the Queensland State Government from the private collection of Harding Judge. In 1935, New South Wales State established a free library campaign to promote free public libraries with the support of local governments.

The Boston Public Library is a municipal public library system in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, established in 1848. The Boston Public Library is also the Commonwealth Library in Massachusetts (formerly Last Recording Library). All federal adult residents are entitled to borrowing and research privileges, and the library receives state funds. According to the National Library Association, the Boston Public Library has about 19 million e-books and materials, the second largest public library after the Library of Congress (34 million copies). In fiscal 2014 we released more than 10,000 free projects and provided 3.7 million documents.
