Leukemia

Leukemia leukemia is a disease characterized by an abnormal amount of leukocyte formation, no treatment has been found. Leukemia is also characterized by abnormal leukocyte conversion of normal hematopoietic cells, its unrestricted proliferation overwhelmingly replaces normal bone marrow and blood cells. Leukemia is named according to normal cells from which they derive, such as lymphocytic leukemia. Lymphocytic leukemia is where lymphocytes are converted to leukemia cells.

Leukemia: There are basically four main types of leukemia. These are acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. This type is usually formed in the bone marrow or tissue that is part of the blood cell and is called blood cancer.

Acute lymphocytic leukemia is the most common form of childhood leukemia. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia proliferates very rapidly in the bone marrow. Bone marrow is a soft tissue in the middle of the bone that produces red blood cells and white blood cells ("leukemia - adult acute 2"). Leukemia involving lymphocytes is called lymphocytic leukemia. There are four main types of leukemia: acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) may occur in children and adults. According to the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Monitoring, Epidemiology and Final Results Program, approximately 21,000 new AML cases are diagnosed each year in the United States.
