Beta holds annual conferences in 18 states, including the senior and junior beta divisions, and winners of these state events continue to compete nationwide. Activities range from scientific meetings to question and answer bowls, to talented competitions. The tournament gives members the opportunity to interact, share project ideas, and demonstrate their academic and leadership skills. Beta is an academic honor program with emphasis on community service. It was founded in 1934 by Professor John W. Harris, Professor of Wofford College. That motto is "Let's serve others."
