LECTURE VI:AN HISTORICAL CASE STUDY -- GALILEO AND THE COPERNICAN THEORY

In 1613, Galileo wrote a letter explaining how Copernicus's theory contradicts the Bible verses. The Bible was written from the viewpoint of the earth, and science shows a more accurate view. . A letter was made public, and a consultant of the Inquisition of the Church published a heresy of Copernicus theory. In 1616 Galileo was ordered not to 'hold, teach, or protect' the Copernicus theory in any way. Galileo has kept this order for seven years. One of the reasons is to make life easier.

Galileo began studying the theory of Copernicus in the early 1890's. In a letter to Johannes Kepler in 1597, he said that he was a believer of Copernicus for many years, but he was afraid to prevent ridicule from publicly expressing his opinion. But in 1604, when a new star appeared, Galileo began teaching Aristotle's astronomy. Almost at the same time, he resumed his early work on sports and used the bevel to conclude that the object fell at the same rate regardless of weight at the same rate.

It is said that in 1615 Galileo was officially warned by the Church to stop promoting his Copernicus theory. Cardinal Bellamin only requested mentioning Copernican as a practical hypothesis to Galileo, or to prove it. The church will then try to explain the Bible so that they can support this discovery. Although he did not follow this "warning" at all, he is said to have continued to disseminate his cosmology without definitive evidence. It was that the church took steps to arrest Galileo and to the end of his theory until 1822 when copernicism became reality. This "official" document was fraudulent and inserted into the Galileo document after Cardinal Bellamin's death. This clearly shows that Galileo has not received adequate warning from the church and has not received his punishment.
