Leadership is a tool of personality developed by nature. There are various types of leadership styles in the workplace environment. Each leadership style has advantages and disadvantages. The organization's culture and goals are two important factors that determine which leadership style is best for a company or organization (Johnson, 2013). Leadership styles include free-fashioned leadership style, authoritarian leadership style, participatory leadership style, transactional leadership style, transformational leadership style, etc. (Goleman, 2000 ).

Leadership contingency theory focuses on specific variables related to the environment that may determine which leadership style is most suitable for a particular working environment. According to this theory, it is not suitable for a single leadership style under any circumstances. Success will depend on a variety of factors including leadership style, follower quality, contextual characteristics (Charry, 2012). Thus, when designing an organization or one of its elements, a factor of chance is any condition in every relevant environment (Naylor, 1999). Contingency theory states that effective leadership depends on the relevance between leader quality and leadership style, and the extent required in certain circumstances (Lamb, 2013).

The style of leadership adopted depends on contextual factors such as follower characteristics, characteristics of work environment and tasks of followers, external environment (Daft 2008). In some cases, the style of successful leadership may not work in other situations.
